Mark Why?
Lucy Well for one thing, you’re good company and you’re very polite.
Mark Thank you, I don’t like eating alone either. Meal times are a great opportunity to
socialize with people you like. We do tend to have great table talk.
LucyI agree but there are some people I can’t stand eating with.
Mark Like who?
Lucy Well, Emily is always talking with her mouth full and it is absolutely gross! Her table
manners are very unrefined.
Mark Yes, I don’t like eating with her either. When she talks with her mouth full, she spits
out large chunks of partially chewed food. It’s very unhygienic and it’s not too
enjoyable to watch.
Lucy I agree! She also never places a napkin on her lap.
Mark I know. I don’t think she really cares about making a mess because she doesn’t
seem to mind having food all over her clothing and on her face.
Lucy It’s very unsightly and unappealing but I suppose she doesn’t mind.
Mark She must not. She never bothers to wash her hands or face after she eats.
Lucy I’ve never even seen her wash her hands before she begins a meal.
Mark That’s just disgusting. She’s begging to catch a cold!

Lucy 음 일단 넌 좋은 친구고 매우 예의가 발라.
Mark 고마워. 나도 혼자 먹는 것을 좋아하진 않아. 식사시간은 좋아하는 사람과 사귈 수 있
는 좋은 기회야. 우리는 식탁에서 즐거운 대화를 나누는 경향이 있지.
Lucy 동의해, 하지만 함께 먹는 것을 견딜 수 없는 사람도 있어.
Mark 예를 들어 누구?
Lucy 음, Emily는 항상 입에 음식을 꽉 채운 채로 얘기하는데 완전 더러워! 그녀의 식사예법
은 엄청 교양이 없어.
Mark 맞아, 나도 그녀와 식사하는 것을 좋아하지 않아. 그녀가 입을 꽉 채운 채 말을 하면 일
부를 씹은 음식의 큰 덩어리들을 뱉어내. 엄청 비위생적이고 보기에 그렇게 좋지도 않
아.
Lucy 동의해! 그리고 다리 위에 절대 냅킨을 올리지도 않아.
Mark 알아. 그녀는 지저분해지는 거에 대해 별로 상관하지 않는 것 같아, 왜냐면 그녀는 얼굴
과 옷 온 천지에 음식을 묻히는 것에 대해 신경 쓰지 않는 것 같거든.
Lucy 보기 흉하고 매력 없지만 그녀는 신경 안 쓰는 것 같아.
Mark 신경 안 쓸 거야. 식사 후에 절대 손과 얼굴을 씻지 않잖아.
Lucy 식사 전에도 손을 씻는 것도 한번도 본 적도 없어.
Mark 역겨워. 그녀는 감기 걸리려고 빌고 있어!
