Iris      Oh daddy, I am so stressed about the spelling bee.

Father   I know dear, but you have nothing to worry about. You’ve been cramming and             practicing for weeks. You’ve shown patience,determination and dedicatio.          

            Theseare all things you should be proud of,win or lose!

Iris        I know, but don’t you think I might have the upper hand if I get a tutor?

Father  Sweetie, you don’t need a tutor. Only practice can make you a good speller        

            and we’ve been doing plenty of that together.

Iris       I know, but the word list we were given does not include all possible variations              of the words. What if they ask me to spell a word I am not familiar with?

Father  Then you will have to sound out the word. During the contest, you will be  allowed

            toverbally pronounce the words before spelling them. You can ask the   judges to

            giveyou the correct pronunciation. You should always repeat the  word to ensure

            thatyou heard the word correctly before spelling it out.

Iris       어 아빠, 철자법 대회 때문에 너무 스트레스 받아요.

Father  알아 얘야, 하지만 걱정할 거 없어. 몇 주 동안 벼락치기를 하고 연습해왔잖아. 인내,

           투지, 그리고   헌신을 보여주었어. 지든 이기든, 이 모든 것들에 대해 자랑스러워 해야

           해.

Iris       알아요, 하지만 가정교사가 있다면 더 우위를 점할 수 있다고 생각하지 않으세요?

Father  얘야, 넌 가정교사가 필요 없어. 오직 연습만이 널 철자에 능한 사람으로 만들 수 있는

           데 우리는  함께 연습을 충분히 해왔잖아.

Iris       알아요, 하지만 우리가 받은 단어장은 단어의 모든 가능한 변형들을 포함하지 않아요.

           제가 잘  모르는 단어의 철자를 말하고 하면 어떻게 해요?

Father  그러면 단어를 발음해야지. 대회 중에 철자를 말하기 전에 구두로 단어를 발음할 수 있

           도록 허락될 거야. 심판들에게 옳은 발음을 알려달라고 부탁할 수 있어. 단어를 똑바로

           들었는지 확인하기 위해  철자를 부르기 전에 항상 단어를 반복해야 해.
